This Small Charity Week (23 -28 June), Smart Works Scotland is proud to join a national celebration of the vital role small charities play in communities across the UK. This year’s campaign shines a spotlight on financial resilience, recognising the incredible efforts of small charities to keep delivering vital services, even as costs rise and funding falls.
Small Charity Week highlights the essential work of the UK’s small charity sector, which supports millions of people and communities every day. Resilient charities create stronger communities, but many are now under more pressure than ever.
Sarah Elliott, CEO of NCVO said “Small charities are the beating heart of our sector and the communities they serve. But many are now under extraordinary pressure. Costs are rising, income is falling, and demand for their support is soaring. This year, Small Charity Week shines a spotlight on financial resilience. It’s a moment to celebrate the impact of small charities, highlight the challenges they face, and call for their recognition, funding and policy change they urgently need.”
In Edinburgh & Glasgow, small charities like Smart Works Scotland play a crucial role in tackling poverty and inequity. Smart Works Scotland supports women impacted by unemployment, hardship and disadvantage by providing quality clothing and expert coaching to empower women to achieve their potential. Our one-to-one interview support is transformative: 67% of women get a job within a month of their appointment.
Our impact is best described in the words of our clients, like Beya, who was supported into employment by Smart Works Scotland, after many years caring for her father.
“Smart Works left me feeling confident and prepared…Their belief in me before I could believe in myself changed my life. I am forever grateful to this transformative organisation that empowers women to achieve their full potential.”
