Beya was brought up by her Dad in a single parent father household and despite being on track to attend university, put her education on hold to care for her dad when he became unwell. Later, while bringing up her three children she undertook various administrative roles but took time out from work when her eldest became seriously ill.
After spending a long time at home as a career she began an Open University course, gaining a 2:1 honours degree in Public Sociology in 2021. She connected with Smart Works after she graduated and secured an interview.
Beya said: “I’d had a 10-year break from paid work, and I lacked confidence and self-belief, fearful that the barriers I had faced would prevent me from securing and sustaining a role.
“My dressing appointment at Smart Works was an unforgettable experience. The five-star service was unlike anything I had encountered before, and the way I was treated made me feel valued and empowered. Alongside the interview coaching, Smart Works left me feeling confident and prepared.
“Since then, Smart Works and its amazing volunteers has remained a crucial part of my journey. Their belief in me before I could believe in myself changed my life. I am forever grateful to this transformative organisation that empowers women to achieve their full potential.”
